You’re getting late to an important appointment, and there’s no one on the other side of the road. You could just stomp on the gas pedal and save a couple minutes of your time.
If you think that’s a good thing to try, this article will convince you otherwise.
Running the red light is a bad idea, because…
- You could be fined.
With the advancement of technology, you will no longer be able to squirrel your way out of this offense. Every traffic light is equipped with a surveillance camera. And just so you know, the fine isn’t as forgiving either. You could pay as much as $500 just for running a red light! (Just imagine the other items you could have bought with that amount of money instead.)
- You could get caught in a traffic accident.
If you thought running the red light could make you get there on time, a traffic accident will no doubt make you miss your whole appointment instead. Plus, you’re at a higher risk for accidents too if you don’t follow the traffic regulations.
- You could sustain injuries.
And cause them to others as well!
You’d be lucky if you only get to walk away with just a scratch and a lawsuit, but that won’t always be the case.
You could get badly injured, have your bones fractured, suffer internal bleeding, lose a limb, or worse, you could even lose your life! Even if you do survive an accident, you will need to pay off expensive hospital bills and miss a lot of workdays. Either way, both situations will leave you at a loss, so just don’t do it.
- You could be liable for causing damage to property.
So, you managed to swerve out of harm’s way just in time, but then you accidentally crash into a street shop or a house. It sure doesn’t paint a pretty picture, does it? You’ll be stuck paying the damage for something you could have avoided entirely.
- You could suffer vehicle wreckage.
Can you imagine having to go to work while riding a bus or hailing a cab? Just think about the repercussions it would do to your daily routine. And don’t forget the repair fees you’d have to spend to get your car fixed. That will surely cause a dent in your savings.
So, do you think you’d still risk running a red light?
Not stopping at a red light is a big no-no, and so is racing the yellow light!
Doing either of the two things could horribly result in an accident you wouldn’t even be in if you had just adhered to the traffic rules.
